This has the effect of drawing out some of the natural shades in this wood. It is a great wood stain for wooden or brass fittings in your home. The one drawback of using weathered staining is that any scratches will appear more prominent. A good method of reducing the number of scratches on your stained red oak floor is to lay down carpeting.

On both red and white oak it carries slightly tones, whereas on rosewood (like my table) or pine, it allows a slightly grayer, driftwood tone.. The Classic gray is quite dark so I suspect that maybe 75% Weathered Oak and 25% Classic Gray would be lighter. Duraseal is the professional line of Minwax and is what the pros use.

Using Red Oak In 2022. Red oak was very popular during times when certain stains and finishes were trendy (hi orange floors of the '90s!). That being said, red oak isn't out of style and orange floors aren't your destiny if you have red oak floors. There are ways to stain the oak to minimize or even hide the orange undertones.

harry savage. 3 years ago. floors will be completed tomorrow. can't walk on it until Tuesday. will take pics then for you. I have red oak #2. type of wood also effects how stain will look. weathered oak stain is a very easy color to match with paint, cabinets, curtains etc.

SJ McCarthy. White oak is a MUCH better option if you want gray. The other option (for those with very healthy budgets) is European Oak. European Oak is a soft silvery colour. It is beautiful. It is expensive.it can give you the soft white/gray colour without adding a stain. Your budget will dictate your options.

To keep it brown without pulling orange you could add something like espresso to the mix. 1/3 espresso, 1/3 weathered oak, 1/3 classic gray. Or if you want it darker try 1/2 espresso. If you want it lighter you could try a section of floor using 50% classic gray and 50% weathered oak or 50% gray 50% provincial.
My favorite was Jacobean 75 and classic grey 25.
